During the early years, Pastor Joong "Jonathan" Lee served as a bi-vocational minister for 4 years while working as a chemistry lecturer at UC Davis and then as a professor at California State University-Sacramento. In 2001, he left the chemistry profession and entered Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in pursuit of a M.Div. degree to become a full-time pastor. He also completed Chuck Colson's Centurions Program in 2004.

"I'm very grateful for the privilege of serving as pastor of Waypoint Community Church. The Davis area brings back many wonderful memories for me since I attended UCD for graduate school back in the early 1990's. So when this church was planted in 1997, I was so excited at the opportunity to join in on the ministry here. As I look back on the past 10 years of God's faithfulness here, I am filled with greater excitement and zeal to share the wonderful Gospel message to the Davis and the greater Sacramento metropolitan area. He has been married to his wife Susanna for 16 years and they have a 13-year old daughter and an 9-year old son. Susanna is an active co-worker in the ministry, having served on the ministry staff in various capacities for more than 16 years. They enjoy opening up their home and their lives to share the love of God that they have received.
